Connection to Blog Chart: John & Jane (Adair) Kirby are the parents of Thomas Hawkins Kirby, who is the father of Mary Ann Kirby, who was the first wife of William McCall Blair.

John Kirby was born in 1769 in Virginia.  His parents were Richard Kirby and Sarah Jean Small.  John married Jane Adair (Addair) on June 13, 1791 in Christianburg, Montgomery county, Virginia.  She was born in 1770.  Her parents were James Addair and his wife Annis.  John Kirby died on July 1, 1831 in Jackson county, Alabama.  He is buried in the Kirby cemetery in Jackson county.  His wife Jane died on February 10, 1835 in Jackson county, Alabama.  She is also buried in the Kirby cemetery in that county.


The Children of John & Jane (Adair) Kirby:

I.  Grizea Kirby: Born on June 5, 1792 in Montgomery county, Virginia.  Buried in Finney cemetery in Jackson county, Alabama.

II.  Nancy Kirby: She was born on October 7, 1793 in Montgomery county, Virginia.

III.  Thomas Hawkins Kirby: He was born on March 18, 1797 in Blount county, Tennessee.  He married his cousin, Nancy C. Kirby on March 1, 1821.  Thomas Hawkins Kirby died on April 8, 1883 in Anniston, Calhoun county, Alabama.  He is buried at Pinegrove cemetery in that county.

IV.  Elizabeth Kirby: She was born on December 6, 1799 in Blount county, Tennessee.

V.  Sarah Kirby ("Sally"): She was born on November 17, 1800 in Marysville, Blount county, Tennessee.  She married (1) Thomas Justice in 1831/ 1832 and (2) Jabez Perkins in 1841 - 1844 in Marshall county, Alabama.  Sally died on December 6, 1881 in Jackson county, Alabama.  She is buried in Rollings cemetery in Buntersville, Marshall county, Alabama.

VI.  James R. Kirby: He was born on November 25, 1802 in Blount county, Tennessee.  He died in Arkansas.

VII.  Richard Lawrence Kirby: He was born on February 28, 1805 in Blount county, Tennessee.  He married Elizabeth Jane Gross (1810-1890) on July 8, 1830 in Jackson county, Alabama.  She was born on October 25, 1810 and died on July 15,  1890.  Richard Lawrence Kirby died on January 5, 1896 in Jackson county, Alabama.  He is buried in the Kelly Public cemetery in Jackson county.

Ms. Johnt states that after a thorough search
of the cemetery, the top portion of the stone
could not be found.  The cemetery was in
bad condition as of late 2010.

They had the following children:
     A.  Sarah Elizabeth Kirby: She was the second wife of Silas H. Hunt.  She died of consumption in Scottsboro, Jackson county, Alabama on July 9, 1886.

     B.  Eva J. Kirby: She was born on September 8, 1831.  She married (1) William Jefferson Skelton (1826 - 1852) and (2) Eli Smith (1820 - 1899).  Eva died on June 20, 1897.  She is buried in the Aspel Methodist Church cemetery in Scottsboro, Jackson county, Alabama.

Inscription under dates reads:
"Aged 65 yrs, 9 mos. 12 ds.  Her patient soul has winged its way

     C.  Mary Emaline Kirby: She was born on August 21, 1833.  She married Benjamin F. Kelly (1826 - 1896).  She died on August 20, 1881.

Benjamin and Mary Emaline had the following children:
          1.  Mary Elsie  Kelly: She was born in 1856 and died in 1896.  She married a Mr. Ashmore.
          2.  Benjamin Franklin Kelly: He was born in 1862 and died in 1944.
          3.  Orlena Kelly: She was born in 1865 and died in 1903.  She married a Mr. Ashmore.
          4.  Mellisa Kelly: She was born in 1866 and died in 1927.  She married a Mr. Manning.
          5.  Richard F. Kelly: He was born in 1878 and died in 1879.

     D.  John Miller Kirby: He was born on August 4, 1835.   He married Mary Hannah Crowley.  She was born on November 30, 1837 and died on November 23, 1882.  John Miller Kirby died on October 24, 1905 and is buried in the Kelly cemetery in Scottsboro, Jackson county, Alabama.

John and Mary Hannah (Crowley) Kirby had the following children:
          1.  Mary Elizabeth Kirby: She was born in 1860 and died in 1920.  She married a Mr. Parks.
          2.  Robert Lee Kirby: He was born in 1875 and died in 1887.
     E.  Richard Lawrence Kirby Jr.: He was born on May 19, 1844 and died on April 28, 1865.  He was a Civil War soldier who was killed by the Tories and was brought to his father's home, his body carried on horseback.  Richard was in Captain Smith's Company and Russell's Regiment under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

VIII.  Virginia D. Kirby: She was born on December 6, 1807 in Blount county, Tennessee.  She married Solomon Benton Pierce (February 12, 1801 - March 27, 1848).  She died on March 21, 1878 in Jackson county, Alabama and is buried in the Pierce cemetery in that county.  She is buried next to Solomon Pierce, but there is no stone.
